Was it rude of me to pick up my neighbors dog poop in front of his condo?

I have a cat. He has a dog. I live on the second floor. He lives on the first floor. I take my cat out for walks. He lets his dog poop in the grassy area, which is directly in front of his condo patio. I don’t complain, I just pick the dog poop up. Today he came out and
got an attitude with me about walking back and forth in front of his condo. I told him I was merely picking up dog poop because I said, I didn’t want my cat tracking it in. He scuffed. Was he justified about
getting annoyed with me for walking back and forth in front of his condo? And/or for picking up his dog poop. The patio is his. But to the best of my knowledge, the yard in front of his condo is fair game. He really appeared territorial about it.
did I really need to spell out that the area in front of his condo is common property? He doesn’t own the grassy area in front of his condo. The grassy area is a common area used by all. Why do I have to spell this out? Ugh how annoying.

go to the condo association about it. in multi level units no one owns the grass area’s and he is rude to leave his dogs dropping behind. In many places its a fine for doing it
ADD: take a picture with his dog in the act if you can.. a picture says a thousand words to condo associations and the law. where I live a photo of your dog leaving a pile and you not picking it up earns you a $500 fine. You could give him the benefit of the doubt (i wouldnt) and leave a roll of poop bags and a holder on his door knob, he might get the message
